Basic Maintenance for Hot Tubs Published on Tuesday, 02 March 2010 Having a hot tub of your own sure has its advantages, but along with these benefits come the responsibility of maintaining your hot tubs. Failure to enact proper maintenance measures on your hot tub may result in faster wear and tear - and with hot tubs not being cheap at all, you would simply be wasting the money you spent on buying it and having it installed. For one, do some basic cleaning at least once a month. This will ensure that no materials stick to the tub and everything is clean - wouldn't it be gross to get into a dirty hot tub? You also need to test the water every once in a while - about every week or two or thereabouts. This will determine if you need to replace the water. It is also recommended that you leave the pumps on day and night, or at least install automatic timers that periodically and regularly turn on the pumps even when the tub is not in use. This makes sure that the water does not become stagnant, thereby preventing the water from becoming bacterial-infested. Another important part of maintenance is checking and cleaning the filters, which obviously are essential to keeping the water and the tub in general clean and free from foreign objects.
